2006 - looking back and looking forward

Posted January 11, 2006 05:36 PM

2006 is here and with it comes a reflection on the past year which flew by so quickly.

Some of the highlights were:

Early morning open water swimming at Thetis Lake with my Tri-Stars group. Sliding into the still waters at 6:30am and seeing the low-lying "fog" layer (and Canada geese) give way as we began practicing.

Working closely with triathletes of different ages and abilities and sharing in their successes throughout the racing season.

Travelling by car to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, with Debi and watching Tri-Star John as he sailed through the Ironman course with a huge smile on his face the entire day.

Encouraging Debi to reach for her own Ironman dream by signing up for Ironman Canada 2006.

Spending a weekend in July in Penticton with my Ironman group having the time of our lives camping and experiencing the wacky, wild weather that nature threw at us on our long training ride.

"Catching" Jan at the finish line of Ironman Canada and placing the finisher's medal around her neck. It was the next best thing to actually finishing myself, which I was unable to do due to a foot injury.

Spectating and volunteering at Ironman Hawaii in October. It was an amazing experience, one that we enjoyed so much that we'll be going back to do it again this October!

And finally - after talking about it for the past 4 years, deciding upon a design and location of a tattoo that both Bob and I could agree upon. Mid-December saw the two of us in a Victoria tattoo parlour having an Ironman Canada tattoo emblazoned on our right legs a couple of inches above our ankles. Triathlon, and in particular Ironman Canada has completely changed my life. I wanted a permanent reminder of that accomplishment.

Looking ahead in 2006 I am thrilled to have a very diverse client base already onboard for the year. From first time triathletes to an inspirational 76 year old female who has been competing in triathlons for the past 20 years. 1/2 and full Ironman clients, plus a couple of long distance clients living in other Provinces. Fantastic!
