2006 Race Season has begun!

Posted April 25, 2006 01:20 PM

The first local race of the season, the Sooke Spring Triathlon, has now taken place. A number of Tri-Stars took part and a good time was had by all! Our wet, cold spring weather finally gave way to a gloriously warm day with good racing conditions.

Tri-Star Taralyn Day is moving to Whistler, at the beginning of May, to join her boyfriend who recently opened a restaurant there. Her smiling face and bubbly personality will be greatly missed. Taralyn will continue her Ironman Canada training, with me, via on-line coaching. She has a number of races coming up in the next few months including two 1/2 Ironmen before the big show on August 27th!

On a personal note, I have recently received the results of MRI's on both of my feet and was very relieved to be told that I do not have either a stress fracture or a neuroma in either foot. I do have muscle inflammation in between my toes on both feet, but thankfully nothing more serious. New bike shoes, with more room across the toe box, have been purchased. This will hopefully prevent the compression problem I experienced at last year's Ironman race due to my feet swelling within the bike shoes from the heat of the day.

One last bit of news - there is now a Canadian magazine devoted to triathlon. It contains lots of fantastic information and articles written by top Canadian pro triathletes. For more information check out their website - www.triathlonmagazine.ca
