Spring Update
Posted March 28, 2007 01:24 PM
Well the "Wet Coast" of Canada has certainly lived up to its name these past few months. Now that it's finally spring we're seeing the first signs of warmer weather after a brutal fall and winter of continuous rain and cold temperatures. So much of our early season training has been done indoors, either on bike trainers or on treadmills in the gym. Everyone has a serious case of cabin fever!
Some of the Tri-Stars ventured up-island in mid-March for the Comox Valley 1/2 marathon. Everyone had a great race and two of my group placed in their age groups - congratulations to both Aynsley and Adam!
The first triathlons of the season are quickly approaching. The bike and run training distances are rapidly increasing. Spring is definately in the air!
In just a few weeks my training partner, Christiane, and I will be jetting off to Lanzarote in the Canary Islands off the North West coast of Africa. We'll be away for nearly two weeks and we will be competing at Ironman Lanzarote which has the dubious distinction of being the hardest Ironman race on the planet. The race is on May 19th. The swim is in the ocean and is two loops. This is followed up with an extremely demanding bike course with notoriously windy conditions and steep hills for a good portion of the 180km distance. Thankfully the run is said to be quite flat and is 4 loops within town. Positive thoughts sent our way on race day would be gratefully accepted!!
