Tri-Stars - August update

Posted August 6, 2005 07:02 PM

Lots of races to report on:

July 23rd was Jeremy McLeod's big day in Edmonton. He, and his mother, took part in the World Master's Championships in Edmonton (in the sprint distance triathlon) and both had a blast. Jeremy placed 7th in his age group and his mother was 6th in hers. Congratulations you two!!

July 31st saw John Fyfe, Debi Wood, and Jim Kerr taking part in the 26th annual Self Transcendence Triathlon at Elk Lake. It was another beautiful day with perfect race conditions. Everyone did very well, however this particular race does not rank any age-groupers under 50 so we'll never know just how well the three Tri-Stars did. They had fun, which is the main goal in any race.

The next big race is on August 21st in Kelowna. It is the Canadian National Championship (Olympic distance) and Bob, Debi and possibly Steve Burns will be toeing the start line. This race was cancelled at the last moment one year ago, due to flash floods and lightning hitting the lake on the morning of the race. Not ideal racing conditions by any stretch of the imagination. So hopefully this year the weather gods will be smiling.

Lastly, is Ironman Canada on August 28th in Penticton. Tri-Stars Troy Lanigan, Jan Frith, Alison Keighan and myself will all be taking part. We're just now finishing off our second to last heavy training week and then it will finally be taper time. We're all looking forward to that very much!

I'll send a couple of updates from Kelowna and Penticton, plus (of course) my race report after IM Canada. Fingers crossed that it's not too hot in the Okanagan this year...
