Tri-Stars News Update
Posted August 25, 2006 04:27 PM
As the 2006 triathlon training season draws to a close, it's time for a brief update on my Tri-Stars group.
Derrick Koch, from Alberta, competed in his first 1/2 Ironman at the beginning of July after training since January mostly indoors (biking on a training and pool swimming) to avoid the cold weather just north of Edmonton where he lives. Unfortunately a calf cramp during the open water swim portion of his race affected his run later in the race, but it was a good experience never the less and stoked the desire to exact revenge on the course next year!!
Jeremy McLeod flew to Montreal in July to compete in a triathlon there. He had an absolute blast and had a great day and race!
Jacquelyn Neary has just moved from Victoria to Calgary to continue her schooling in the fall. I will continue to provide coaching via on-line for her - my second Alberta client!!
Last weekend, Aug 20th, saw Bob Gebbie, Jan, Frith, James Furlan and Kristi Aghassibake competing in their goal race for the summer - the Kelowna Apple Triathlon. All four had good strong races with Bob making the Canadian National Team for the 2nd year in a row! Unfortunately he passed on taking a position on the team as the Age Group Olympic distance World Championships are in Hamburg, Germany in 2007 and conflict with other plans that have been made.
This weekend is Ironman Canada. Taralyn Day, Christiane Selenz and myself will all be toeing the line on Sunday morning. Thankfully the weather forecast is for the high 20's in temperature, quite a bit cooler than earlier in the week. Fingers crossed for a great race for all of us...!
In addition to IMC '06, Taralyn is also competing at the Long Course World Championships in Canberra, Australia at the end of November - very exciting!!
Registration for Ironman Canada 2007 opens on Monday morning - Aug 28. Next year's Tri-Stars IM component is going to be huge! Christiane, Taralyn & myself are all signing up again. Jan Frith, James Furlan & Kristi Aghassibake, Jacquelyn Neary, Alison Keighan, Jon Kerr, Derrick Koch, and Jim Kerr are also going to be registering - that makes 10 at this point of the year already. There are also 3 Tri-Star 1/2 Ironman clients on the books for 2007, plus two Olympic distance clients. 2007 is going to be amazing!! My tri coaching client roster will be capped at 20 for 2007. I am thrilled to have such wonderful people to work with - they are all a joy!
The next news update will my IMC 2006 race report which I will post early next week...
