About the website production
This website was designed and constructed by Jeff Werner using semantic markup in XHTML and CSS. The corresponding links on the footer of each page verify and validate this (as often as possible). Section header photos were also shot by Jeff Werner.
The site is powered by Movable Type, a web publishing system that stores content in a database and generates static files based on custom templates. This system allows Carolyn Gebbie to update content on the site without requiring web design or programming knowledge.
The site is designed to be as accessable and usable as possible. Examples of this include: Text scaling, whereby all text on the site may be enlarged (or reduced) by the user to suit her needs; Content and design is fully viewable (to varying extents) in legacy browsers (i.e. old Internet browsers like Netscape 4), cross-platform browsers (like Mozilla or IE for Mac) or compact/portable devices such as PDAs and cell phones; Source code is organized and deployed in a method suitable for people with disabilities, such as the blind who browse the site with a screen reader; File sizes are kept to a minimum, reducing load times for users, especially those on slow Internet connections.
Extra features
Also built into this site are additinal features. These include:
XML Feeds--summaries of the latest updates to the website--that can be collected and read by various news or feed reader programs, such as Bloglines.
